A Visual Representation of My Identity

This is a visual look into who I am...

(Not so) Tiny Dancer

My parents say I came out of the womb dancing. While I spent the first few years of my dance career staring at myself in the mirror fixing my tutu because it wasn't fluffy enough, I grew to learn that I could never live without dance somewhere in my life. I joined my first dance competition team in third grade, and I never looked back. While competing with my dance studio, I competed in Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Musical Theater, and my all-time favorite: Hip-Hop. In my sophomore year of high school, I became the first hip-hop soloist in my dance studio's history. That same year, I became one of the founding members of my high school's hip-hop club: Deviation, where I worked my way up from a member to vice president to president. Graduating out of my dance studio was a challenging transition, especially when it happened in 2020.

Knowing I would not be majoring or minoring in dance at Chapman University was terrifying for me; I had no idea if I would ever dance again. Luckily my first year of college, I found and made it onto Floor 13, one of Chapman's Hip-Hop teams. Later that year, I got offered a position as the default hip-hop substitute teacher at my dance studio, where I hope to inspire young dancers just as much as my dance teachers inspired me when I was their age!

Disney Adult

I essentially grew up in the Disneyland Park. My first time in the Theme Park was for my first birthday. My mom still believes that the day I ran up to Tigger at his meet and greet was the best day of my life. When my little sister was born, my grandparents started giving us Disneyland Annual Passes for every birthday. Since we only lived 20 minutes down the 5 Freeway, we would go whenever we had a free afternoon. Some of my fondest memories started with my mom waking me up from a nap telling me we were going to Disneyland.

According to Urban Dictionary, a Disney Adult is "an adult with an intense and extreme love of The Walt Disney Company films, television shows, franchises, characters, theme parks, merchandise/ memorabilia, and/or products. Disney Adults may devote an unreasonably large portion of time or resources towards expressing their love of Disney, and the content Disney or its subsidiaries produce."

I didn't know how reliant I was on the Disney Franchise until COVID-19 shut down the Theme Park for 13 months. There would not be a day that passed where I did not long to enter the park gates once again. Luckily for me, I would choose Chapman University for college and live closer to the theme park than ever before. Even luckier, my sophomore year of college, I would get to live in the Chapman Housing roughly four blocks down from Disneyland. Like in my childhood, I would go whenever I had the time to go, including a plethora of Disney Study Dates.

Dog Mom

Rusty Brown was my first best friend. He was my parents' practice baby before they had me, technically making him my older brother. We did absolutely everything together: running up and down the hall, relaxing on the couch, and watching Mom pull into the driveway as she came come from work. He was the best dog that my family could have fathomed and lived a long and healthy life.

Tickles on the other hand (the puppy Santa Claus brought us for Christmas when I was five, and named by yours truly) was an absolute menace. She literally flunked out of her puppy BootCamp because she was so bad. We joked that it was a good thing that puppy was cute, otherwise, we wouldn't know what we would have done. She bullied poor Rusty to the absolute maximum despite their seven-year age difference. In her more senior years (she just turned 14 in September), she is much sweeter. She adores cuddles, long walks at the Huntington Dog Beach, and being bundled up under five layers of blankets. She is my pride and joy.
